Font - Quigley_Copperpot · 14h Wanted to be a marine biologist because I loved the ocean, but the classes were too hard. So I went to a Maritime Academy instead. Now I am ship captain and make way more than I ever would have as a marine biologist. I volunteer for the marine mammal center so I still get to play with otters and seals occasionally too. Font - Sharper133 · 14h 1 Award I was sad for a little bit, but poked around with headhunters in an adjacent industry. Landed in something much easier that pays more than I ever thought possible with this lifestyle. Just because you aren't good enough to make it in the "dream role", doesn't mean there aren't potentially better options out there. G Reply 1 55 3 ...

Font - oxfon · 13h Wanted to be a psychiatrist. Hated the idea of med school. Instead, i'm now in a role where i'm working directly for CAHMS, the child mental health services in the UK, work 1 on 1 with kids, make a huge impact, everything i wanted from the role as a psychiatrist, at 19 years old. Less pay, absolutely, same potential for pay in the future however, but instead of sitting around in med school for 8 years, i'm actually out making an impact. Everything i've ever wanted in a career.

Font - Hereatrandom · 12h I realized the only part of film making I liked was writing, so dropped out of film school. I still write but for myself, and I am actually grateful now because with time I see l don't actually want to turn something I love into a job. I work in healthcare currently, but am burnt out on that and am now getting a degree in cyber security so I can step into the IT field. Thinking about going into digital forensics. I can get paid to work in a field that can do some good a

Font - DCBeasts · 9h Through a loooo00ot of soul-searching. I was quite depressed for a long time. However, at some point I realized I was mostly upset because I felt like had failed to uphold a promise to myself... while actually winding up with an objectively better outcome in most other parts of my life. For instance, my dream job would have paid less than the job I got as a "stopgap." Likewise, as that placeholder job turned into a permanent job, I started to really enjoy the life I had buil

Font - pokemamorytrainer · 9h I actually passed and graduated but never found a decent job. I studied automotive and could only find part time jobs as a lube/tire tech making $9-$11 a flat rate hour. Extremely unhappy and disappointed. Still paying off the loans. Work was too hard for so little pay. Now I do construction and although the work is still hard the pay is worth it. Still unhappy tho. G Reply ...

Font - lightacrossspace · 13h It was hard, really really hard. I could not handle the stress, crashed and burned. Had to rebuild myself from scratch. Came out the other end a heathier and more empathic person with a much richer life experience than what I had set myself up to. G Reply 4 34 3 ...

Font - IAmNotTeriyakiSauce · 10h I was a music education major for 3 semesters but kept failing my juries (end of semester final performace) due to bad performance anxiety. Was practically forced to change majors. I was devastated and had no back up plan. I chose to be an early childhood special education major because I had a good feeling about it when I read it on the list. I am so happy I failed my juries because the skills I ended up learning have made me a much better person and a great mom

Font - Gorf_the_Magnificent · 10h It was my life's dream to be a lawyer, but I got rejected by all seven law schools I applied to. I was bummed out for a while, but did a little research and found out that business schools were easier to get into. So I applied to two schools for an M.B.A. and got into both. I chose the one that offered me a graduate research assistantship. This was in the mid-1970's. | Today l'm a retired business executive and adjunct professor who teaches business students. It

Font - KikySandpi3 · 2h My dream goal for the lifetime is to become a car designer (i am still nut when it comes to a car). My dream was gone when i get rejected several times into fine art university. In the end, i was accepted in business college. Fast forward 10 years later, i ended up as an IT staff in my current workplace. My current attempt to reach my goal is to alter my goal, so i aspired to become an illustrator or comic book artist. Which is almost the same thing. Still, design anythin

Font - Truelikegiroux • 13h Wanted to be a MechE. Decided in college that I liked alcohol infinitely more than statics and whatever high level calc I had tested into. Got kicked out of school for academic reasons. Fought my way back and was able to get back into school and changed my major to something that I was actually interested in and got a part time job in tech. My undergrad degree is now essentially useless, and I've been working in big tech for years and have a masters in CIS and love it

Font - CookiesChoco • 6h I had a friend who spent her entire life wanting to be a News Anchor. She made her dream job, was an anchor at a large station for multiple years. One day she got laid off, and the next day called a new coworker and got a job in country government doing a job she didn't know existed. Fast forward about 8 years later and she's the happiest she could be. Over the past year I applied to over 20 positions, got interviewed at 8 of them. I kept coming up 2nd, 3rd, 4th and I wa
