Motivation is an interesting thing. Some of us feel compelled to do a good job because we imagine ourselves as the last line of defense between a working, functional society and the abyss of chaotic mediocrity. Some of us seriously don't care about that at all, and honestly it's an amazing thing to witness. Once you see one coworker leave out the fire exit and make the whole store's alarm system have an episode, all bets are off. The seal of what you thought was civilized society has now been broken, and you are free to be whatever you want.
It's absolutely astonishing, the amount of junk people get away with before being fired. And there's kind of a beauty to it, too. The not my job moments from these masters of negligence are nothing short of artwork, crafted with the utmost non-care. May the radiant unprofessionalism of not my job moments persist, and live again to inconvenience someone who could really use a functional goddamn staircase.
