It's dangerously easy to get so caught up in our own life situations that we forget to look up, remember that we're also living on a giant rock that's furiously spinning and falling through space. The universe is nuts. Truly. Thus, having someone take the time to break down the actual size of the universe is quite the trip. It's definitely a solid way to keep the ego in check, by reminding ourselves just how small and insignificant (yet wonderful) we are in the grand scheme of things.
It makes us feel small to think about the universe. The whole thing is just so dang big. Maybe the way to think about our place in it is that even though we are insanely tiny compared to the bulk of reality, we are nonetheless, part of the tapestry of things. That's one option. The other is to eat tons of protein powder and do deadlifts so that we can take up as much space as possible, and compete with the Earth itself.
