When you work a customer service job, you learn quickly that, unfortunately, the gig comes with having to take a lot of flak from unhappy, entitled, and rude customers. Even though there's no reason for an adult to take out whatever they're mad about on a teenager serving them coffee, plenty of people still find plenty of time to do just that, so the hero of this story devised a plan with their coworkers to mess around with customers that do decide to throw a fit. Having colleagues pretend to fire each other when customers are angry seems like a win-win situation; it turns something frustrating into a funny little inside joke at work, particularly when a rude customer suddenly backpedals when they think they're actually causing someone to lose a job.
While the user who told this story posted to r/AmITheAsshole to check if things had gone too far, most seemed to disagree and argue that their method is actually the perfect way of dealing with rude customers. If they walk away feeling bad that someone may have been fired because of them, maybe they'll think twice about looking for reasons to complain about service at a coffee shop.
