Taylor Swift's High Levels Of Private Jet Emissions Sparks Controversy And Memes

This controversy all started when it was revealed that Kylie Jenner uses her private jet to make flights that take under 5 minutes. She was highly criticized on social media by environmentalists and regular people alike. 

Last week, it was revealed that Kylie isn't the only celebrity that has been making questionable environmental decisions with their planes. In fact, she doesn't even crack the top 10 of highest CO₂ emissions through private jet usage. The number one name on that list was Miss Taylor Swift. 

Naturally, this news was met with plenty of memes responding to the situation and generally making light of the environmentally irresponsible singer. 

Taylor's stans had a variety of responses to this controversy. One fan made an incredibly earnest now-deleted thread detailing things Taylor has done for the environment, such as selling two of her private planes to reduce carbon emissions. Other fans made more lighthearted jokes about the situation, not taking the accusations of environmental harm too seriously. 

A representative for Taylor Swift told TMZ, “Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals. To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect." This attempt at damage control was not terribly successful, as Twitter users saw right through it. 

Climate change is an easy topic to use while playing the blame game. It's fun for people to find one scapegoat online to blame for the decay of the environment because, in actuality, there is no one person to blame. At the same time, it isn't a crime to stigmatize celebrities for using their wealth to create an astronomical carbon footprint. At the end of the day, this Taylor Swift discourse is a meme more than it's environmental activism.
