Discussion: What Do Dogs Really Think About Walks

What do doggos really think when they see you reaching for the collar and leash? This group of Reddit users had a lot to offer when answering this simple, yet intriguing question! Some doggos see every walk as a patrol session, meaning they essentially do a sweep of the neighborhood looking for new and interesting scents, occurrences, people, and just get an updated picture of what's going on in the outside world.

Other doggos see a walk as more of an adventure, with endless possibilities and tons of interesting phenomena to be discovered along the way! Our doggos sure do love to get their noses to the ground and explore all the exciting scents their noses are capable of detecting. Then there are some dogs that avoid walks altogether! When they see the collar and leash coming out.. ruh ro. It's time to pretend I don't exist and hope that the humans won't find me! Let's dive nose first into this interesting discussion!

[Discussion] I've always wondered this-of course there is the innate enjoyment of being outside with the pack just at all, but what do dogs think walks are for? I have to assume that with alot of dogs, they think they are going 'on patrol' in the area around their den, and this is why you brought them with you.     We've always wondered this, too! What is the purpose of a walk in a doggo's brain? Besides of course being the go to bathroom outlet, doggos are super inquisitive (at least most of them!) and want to explore their surroundings!

Sniff, pee on stuff, look for critters... it's hard to explain but he seems to genuinely enjoy just moving forward and taking in the world around him! Like he's always looking forward to the next exciting thing we might come across.     Font - Mutapi · 2d My dog takes me on what I call "patrols". She grabs a toy, which I think she thinks l'll want/ uses it like a lure, and gives me "the look" until I follow her outside. Basically, she takes me on a walk. She leads me around our property, does some serious üffing, marks some territory, and does a lot of sniffing. It seems to me like she's scanning the perimeter and checking strategic locations where intruders (like raccoons and coyotes) might lurk and announces to any ne'er -do-

My dog always wants to be in the lead on the way up but on the way back she walks with her nose pressed to the cool bag of food.
