Whatever your thoughts on Ariana Grande, it's undeniable that she has a knack for keeping the conversation going on social media. This isn't always a good thing, as debacles like her donut licking or hastily rectified "BBQ Grill" tattoo have proved; however, by far the most serious allegations she has faced have been to do with her relationship to ethnicity.
While Grande is Italian American, her years-long love affair with fake tan has led to multiple accusations of blackfishing. The idea that she was altering her appearance to more closely resemble someone who was black or biracial troubled many observers, but it would seem that she is entering a new era when it comes to her image.
In recently shared photos, Grande debuted a look where she is several shades paler than most have come to expect her to be. She's not off the hook that easily, though; with her newly dyed dark hair and sharp eyeliner, some began to think she wanted to try on yet another ethnic background for size.
While some were quick to defend her, many people raised their eyebrows at Grande's apparent attempt at "asian fishing". Whatever has motivated her appearance change, it's probably not a good sign that much of the reaction has been saying the same thing.
