Daughter misses her parents’ early landing text due to her muted group chats, arriving 30 minutes late for airport pick-up, but refuses to apologize after they explode at her in anger: 'I'm telling you straight to your face how irresponsible you are'

We understand the pain of the constant buzz of group chats. The ones you don't even know how the heck you joined in the first place. It's most definitely a universal experience, and as much as we wish we could exit 99% of the groups on our phones, we still have an obligation to remain loyal to that 1%, aka…the groups that should never be muted: family, work, and that hilarious chat that reposts all of Cheezburger's articles…Other than those 3 essentials, the rest are pretty much just filling up our iCloud storage. 

However, this daughter can't even handle the pressure of three group chats at once, and ends up muting every group she belongs to. However, the downside can often result in missing important texts and updates…Such as the delays and early arrivals of your parents' flight status, especially when you're the one who's supposed to pick them up from the airport. This daughter was meant to fetch her senior parents, but missed the group text informing her that they would be arriving 30 minutes earlier than expected. 30 minutes is nothing major, right? Well, according to her parents, that assumption is very much WRONG!

  • When she arrives at the airport half an hour late, her parents can barely look her in the eyes…Some could argue that's a bit of a dramatic response, but their anger doesn't end there. The whole ride home, she is being lectured for her complete lack of responsibility and care. But the fact of the matter is, she missed a group text message, not the first man landing on the moon…So everyone needs to take a deep breath and reassess the intensity of this situation…especially when they've been late to pick her up numerous times before!

    They don't want me to waste money on parking at the airport, so what we have been doing for years is they message me for updates ("we have boarded the plane", "we have landed" etc) so that we estimate what time I have to leave.

    OP rant-ifying Their plane landed at 14:45 according to their message; I got to the airport at 15:52, so a little over an hour since arrival. But I believe they just got their bags at around 15:22, so 20mins since baggage claim.

    bob_1k999 NTA. I've had my fair share of messups and being yelled at for them and this is out of proportion. You were like an hour "late". Who can't spend an hour at the airport?? They should've dm- ed you if there was any change. And even if they did and you didn't see it, it's not that big a deal if you don't usually do that.

    OP rant-ifying NEVER. I've even needed to drive slowwwwly because I left too early. Meanwhile, they have fetched me at the airport twice - and both times 30 minutes late. It's why I don't understand why they think their anger is justified.
