Wait. Hold on a second. This post is about what? As incredulous as it might seem, this is a legitimate title, and no, this isn't The Onion. Although, it might read as if it is.
This thread was posted to the r/AmItheAsshole subreddit by u/ApprehensiveFix3425, who is the mother in the story. She describes her disbelief at her daughter's insistence in holding this party for her lizard.
"Well I didn't come [to the party]. I didn't see a point. It's just a lizard and I'm a busy person. She later called me and expressed she was kind of sad I didn't come cuz it'd been a while since I'd seen her but she understood I was busy. I told her she couldn't actually expect me to come to a gender reveal for a lizard."
What seems to be happening here is that the daughter is just looking to have a bit of fun and come up with a fun excuse to hold a themed party. The joke has clearly gone over the mother's head and is not helped by the fact that she is clearly holding resentment for her lack of grandchildren.
The mother herself addresses this in her post but still manages to miss the point.
"She got quiet for a minute and then turned my words around, claiming I wasn't supportive of her decision to be childfree." The mother explains. "I told her she can't possibly expect me to treat a lizard as a grand daughter; she said she didn't expect me to but it was clear I didn't respect her bond with her lizard and her decision, and she just wanted to see me and my reason for coming was hurtful."
Something about mothers and parties lately: check out this mother-in-law who rudely rejected her son and daughter-in-law's gift.
