Sometimes food and shelter isn't enough—you need love and patience to save a defeated kitty.
A feral cat was found off the street sick and terrified. The poor boy was leaking from every orifice and would hiss and swat whenever a human got near. The workers at the shelter tried their hardest, but it's not easy when the cat is so feral they refuse to cooperate in any capacity and you have an overload of other rescue animals to attend to. Unfortunately, that put this baby on the euthanize list.
Luckily, one person saw this struggling baby and decided to give him a fight chance. He was saved only one hour before he was scheduled to get euthanized.
It took four weeks, some bl00d and tears, and lots of love and patients—but this baby was able to let down his defensive wall of fear. The first week was definitely a struggle. The soft aggressive boy, which she named Potato, would not even walk around the room when she was there. He swatted at her when she got near to feed him and she would leave with scratched up hands and a broken heart.
But after the first couple of weeks, she started to see Potato feel more comfortable. He stopped swatting at her when she would feed him. He would wait patiently for his food instead of hissing at her like she was stealing it from him. He even started feeling comfortable enough to get up and walk around the room and explore while she was in it. Though she still got scratched a few more time, things were starting to look up.
After three weeks he was like a completely different boy. Though he still had some ways to go, he was accepting pets and not just a little forced scratch. He was coming up to the woman meowing for pets. He would curl up next to her lap and love the head scratchies. Looking at this little rolly polly happy boy, it was hard to even remember how he was labeled too aggressive to live.
After the four weeks, Potato started crawling into her lap and meowing for pets. He even started purring—a sign of a happy boy. This cat was only an hour away from losing his life, and after just four weeks of love and patience, he is now able to live his best life.
