Terrible Landlord Suggests His Tenant Should Just Move Out Instead of Fixing Leaky, Disgusting Ceiling

Anyone who has ever lived as a renter knows that there are typically a small handful of perks when you're living in a property that someone else owns. The biggest allure of being a renter is that you don’t have to pay for maintenance costs of the property and if there’s structural damage or unsafe living conditions, you can just ask the person who is feeding off of exorbitantly high monthly checks to do their due-diligence of fixing the problems.

Right? Not in Todd’s case.

Todd, a man who has quickly become infamous for being the world’s worst landlord, proved that terrible humans are certainly out there in the rental world. Infuriatingly enough, despite cashing in on having tenants in an apartment you own, this man has the audacity to pull this card on these poor people who just want to be able to use their shower without attic debris tumbling in their hair.

It's a true “take it or leave it” situation.

Sure the crumbling roof itself is reason enough to be fairly concerned about the structural integrity of the apartment you're living in, but with the inhospitable rental climate right now, if people want to live somewhere affordable, there are some corners that simply need to be cut. Even worse, the landlords know that.

Todd the landlord certainly knew that he had leverage on his tenants when they sent him the photos of the crumbling roof.

The landlord clearly didn't feel like covering his losses and taking care of terrible things that are CLEARLY his responsibility. Instead, Todd the feudalist land owner did the unthinkable. He refused to fix the ceiling and instead, told his tenants that if they don't want to fix the ceiling themselves, they should just move.

He knew he had the leverage of desperate tenants and the crumbling rental market at his back, what are the tenants supposed to do? Obviously without fixing the ceiling themselves, they are essentially foregoing the right to shower, so leaving the gaping ceiling hole unattended is obviously not an option. However, they also can't fix the hole themselves because that means Todd wins! So of course, because they also don't have the option to pack up and move their lives into a slightly less crumbly apartment, they're in a pickle.

In the comments section, onlookers were enraged. Some offered their two-cents on the debacle, others were sympathetic and understanding, while some commenters brought up some excellent advice.

@gmulva has a point. The only way to really win this situation is to force the landlord's hand. Unfortunately though, that also means they would still have to pack up and move out. So it's sort of a win-lose situation. However, it's a win-lose situation that results in JUSTICE, which is something we can stand behind.
