Reddit Thread: Good Boy Doggo Waits For Human At Home After Altercation With Bigger Dog

There is nothing more stressful than a nervous encounter with a bigger dog. It's not that we have a thing against big dogs, quite the contrary. Though it's just a fact that their physical size deems them more easily able to break free and overpower their humans. The humans in question are in many cases just slightly larger than the dogs themselves!

You can imagine the delight of OP/proud doggo owner when after being faced with an incoming threat, found her doggo waiting for her at home as the altercation ended and she was able to return. That run home after defending her doggo must have been excruciating, but seeing her doggo sitting at home waiting for her must have been an amazing feeling.

    Font - Snuck out of a meeting to take my dog (great dane, lab, amstaff mix ~80 Ibs) for a quick walk since the sun was actually shining, and we wouldn't need 16 layers. About 15 minutes into the walk, an old lady and her great pyrenees came around a corner about 15 ft away. As soon as her dog saw mine, it started snarling and lunging at my dog. She started yelling, "I can't hold him. I'm not going to be able to hold him back."

    Big boi wants a walk, big boi gets a walk. It's a sunny day and it would be a shame to waste all that good sunshine. Duh duh duh….the plot thickens.

    Font - My dog started growling back, but he was trying to get away, pulling on the leash as hard as he could. The old lady was being dragged closer and closer by her massive dog. This wasn't the first time a dog has gone after my dog, but it was the largest dog to attempt it. I thought I could hold her dog back, but I couldn't hold both dogs.     Who gave this old lady the 'thumbs up' that she could walk this dog?? It just seems irresponsible to walk a dog that you will not be able to physically control should a situation like this occur, but that's just our own two cents.

    Font - I had to watch my dog take off without me. I start listing all the missing dog groups in my head so I can get him back if someone finds him. Once my dog was out of sight, the other dog started to calm down within a few minutes. I told the lady that if my dog was hit by a car or taken, I better not see her in my neighborhood again - probably not the best response but it was the most polite one i could come up with at the time.

    Font - I ran home (note not a runner by any stretch of the imagination), trying to remember where I left my car keys so I could grab them and go out looking for my dog. I finally made it to my building and who's there, sitting on my patio patiently waiting to get back in? The goodest good boy in the whole world. A little extra clingy, but otherwise fine.

    Font - take aways from my experience: • teach your dog where their "home" is, you never know when it will come in handy • more importantly, don't get a dog you can't maintain control of if they get riled up. • hug your puppies extra close

    Font - waffles-all-day · 4 days ago my MIL wants to walk my dog so badly and keeps talking about how it would be fine. she is less than 100 Ibs and he is 45 lbs, very strong. he's good on leash for us, but he can pull when he sees cats, and sometimes if another dog is really reactive, he will react to that. maybe he's fine with her 99% of the time, but if you cant control the dog 100% of the time then you shouldn't walk it!
