Font - I went out to pick up some delicious Indian takeout last night, and took my dog along because he loves car rides. I did the usual routine...put his leash on, walked him out to the car, told him to jump in, and attached his seatbelt thingy to his harness.

Fair enough, Indian take-out is absolutely delicious and doggo loves car rides. Sounds like things are off to a good start in the world of OP and his dog.

Font - We had a nice drive, a little under an hour round trip (yes, this Indian restaurant is so good that I'll drive way out into the suburbs for their food). When we got home, I went to do the usual getting out of the car routine: unclip his seatbelt buckle from his harness, making sure I don't detach his leash in the process. Except...there was no leash.

Thankfully, the majority of this journey was in the car and doggo did not have too much of an opportunity to wander around, but where the heck is the leash?

Font - I thought maybe he had somehow unhooked the leash (not entirely implausible since he had wiggled around enough to get out of his sweater), but the leash was not in the car. I held him by his harness to walk to the house, and when we got inside I found his leash by the backdoor where I always keep it. Apparently I imagined the part where I put his leash on before leaving, and just let him walk through the front yard unleashed.

Ah, yes. Humans are making mistakes, doggos are being cute, everything in the world has a place. We hope this silly human keeps a little better track of things next time, though. It's always best to avoid potentially disastrous situations!

Font - I have no idea how this happened. He is NEVER EVER off leash anywhere other than our fenced backward. Maybe I was just REALLY excited about palak paneer and peshwari naan. TL,DR: Forgot to leash my dog for the 30 foot walk to the car. Thankfully there were no squirrels around, or it would have been mayhem. Tell me your stories, please and thank you!

Font - zebedir · 4 days ago One of my childhood dogs was an absolute escape artist. She used to jump the fence or something and go take herself out for walks, she knew enough to stay on pavements and avoid cars though so she was safe enough but it was always a bit scary when you went out to the garden and she wasn't there! I remember one time I was in the shop down the road and she wandered in! Very surprising on both our parts to find eachother randomly like this haha

Font - DrReginoldSaunders · 3 days ago We were camping in South Dakota with our definitely not off leash dog. Got up the last morning and were packing up and my husband unzipped the tent to take it down while I was putting sleeping bags in the truck (he didn't realize I wasn't right outside). Look over and doggo is standing next to me stretching and yawning like "morning mom!" I did a double take and grabbed him. We laugh about it now cause it's hilarious in hindsight but if he had realized he w

Font - littaltree · 4 days ago My boyfriend left the side gate open after taking the trash bins down to the curb. Later on he had let the dog out back and when he went to bring the dog back in he was gone and the gate was open. My boyfriend panicked and got some treats and headed out to the front. He looked around and didn't see the dog anywhere. Called his name ONCE and the dog came BOUNDING to him from down the street. He is 10.5 months old and has not been let off leash yet because his brain

Font - Heysandyitspete · 4 days ago I was working and my dog was persistently ringing the bell that she had to go outside. I let her out and decided to leave her there (fenced yard) until my meeting was over in 20 min. I see the meter reader truck pull up and the guy got out and headed to my backyard to read the meter. I forgot I left my dog out there, until I saw her run up to the gate after he opened it. I ran downstairs, expecting my friendly staffie mix to get a face full of pepper spray or

Font - shortnsweet33 · 4 days ago I remember one time I was going to unhook the seat belt clip from my dogs harness and clip her leash on so we could walk up to our apartment. I had just gotten home from a busy day and wasn't really thinking I guess. Sure enough, I clipped the leash to the seat belt carabiner clip because once she jumped out, she had no leash on. Luckily she just stood there and looks as confused as I was lol

Font - pandatitties · 4 days ago We took our puppy camping when he was about 6 months old. He has been before at around 4 months, but he was on a lead. We got to the camp site very late, around 10pm and it was pitch black outside. I knew he had to pee/poop and I was exhausted from the drive, so I just opened the door and let him out. He took off into the woods, I dropped everything and took off after him. I didn't see him for a few minutes then finally spotted him taking a shit in a pile of leav

Font - jasminel96 · 4 days ago My dog was an escape artist and a runner when I first got her and we lived in our first house. She'd get out and me chasing her would be a game to her. Now we live in a different house and she's 14 and a lot more mellow. One day last year, we were on our usually daily night walk. She pulls a little bit on her leash when she wants to sniff something. After walking a little bit I was like "wow I'm surprised she's not pulling?" and I looked down and her leash was not
