If you're like us, then you are desperate for the movies of childhood. We are always in our nostalgic feels, especially for films and music from the 1990s and 2000s. Most of us grew up glued to television screens. I saw Mean Girls twenty times alone due to the ABC Family channel running constant re-runs. This was before phones were always in our clutch. We had to be in front of the TV exactly when the movie started. If you wanted to watch it another time you would have to record it. Most of these movies I had recorded as well. They were worth recording because of the iconic zingers and one-liners. These characters have a lot of chutzpah. The list below has movie baddies such as Elle Woods, Janis Ian and a random villager from Shrek that deservers to be spotlighted. Keep scrolling to see the infamous comebacks and clapback's that we still quote from to this day.
This fantastic clapback was fast and witty. It made us all feel powerful as kids watching from our TVs. Janis gets bullied constantly throughout the movie. She is hurting on the inside but never lets it show. She protects herself with her shield of words. She used humor as a defense mechanism. It's pure punk power. We stan Janis Ian until the end of time.
Elle Woods has to constantly prove herself in the movie Legally Blonde. We were so proud of her when she finally served Vivian on a plate.
Whitney Dow: She puts the "itch" in bitch
Courtney Egbert: She puts the 'whore' in horrifying.
Mic drop. This moment is such a quick yet important zinger in Shrek. This villager baddie knows what she wants. She deserves the perfect suitor and will not be settling for peasant behavior. King sh*t only.
I take personal offense to this as I always have a hideous skirt convention to get to... The Devil Wears Prada has several moments of pure savagery. This is a standout scene. Emily roasted Andy for her sartorial choices and this remark slapped her into shock.
This sassy kid gave us a forever phrase that lives rent free in our heads. He told off Mr. Schneebly like a true queen in training. Ru Paul would be proud.
Shakespeare's wit maybe gets lost in translation in She's the Man's. But the angsty script was all the slapstick and predictable jokes that we needed as kids. This scene resonated with every kid that had been picked on.
As a tween, this line shook me to my core. I thought nothing could ever be funnier or more savage than Will Smith in I, Robot. In retrospect, we repeated this way too much and I apologize to the teachers who suffered from overhearing us laugh at this joke during school lunch.
Clueless is an undeniable part of pop culture in the 1990s-2000s. Tai's salty insult sends Cher Horowitz into an angst-fueled spiral after she says "You're a virgin who can't drive." The ultimate mic drop.
It's hard to believe that this movie came out in 1993. It was always re-run on television in the early 2000s. Wednesday Addams is still one of the most sought after characters. You can't walk down the streets on Halloween without seeing a girl dressed up in her signature breads and black dress. Wednesday was a punk at heart and delivered this sassy line to her preppy competitor.
