Cat's Discomfort Gets Mistaken For 'Spicey' Personality, He Becomes Soft Cuddle-Bug After Treatment
Each cat has its own distinct personality. From couch potatoes to mischievous playmates, cats often break out of their world and bridge the feline-human cultural divide. Devoted caretakers and rehabilitative personnel at the Richmond SPCA Robins-Starr Humane Center recently took in a cat named MC Skat Kat with an engaging, colorful personality.
This was not the same cool, rapping, street-philosopher-turned-cartoon tomcat featured alongside Paula Abdul in the late 1980s that took the world by storm. While Richmond's MC Skat Kat wasn't wearing blue jeans with black suspenders over a white tank top, he was sporting a blue protective medical cone.

The brilliant team caring for MC Skat Kat believed his "spicy" persona was likely due to the discomfort he was in. When he was transferred from the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society to the Richmond SPCA, the three-year-old shorthair suffered from urinary blockages.

Dr. David Molinas performed a perineal urethrostomy (PU) procedure immediately alleviating his pain. He also explained that MC Skat Kat was on various anti-anxiety medications, but since the root of his irritation was gone—physical and environmental—he would be back to normal quickly.

It was incredible to see how much happier MC Skat Kat was in the following days. He enjoyed visitor after visitor showing him love and affection, watching as he chased his toys around the room. As a temporary resident of the SPCA's "Night Catillion," MC Skat Kat says he's "pretty lonely... just waiting for my special someone to come along."

He's looking to ditch his solo act and build a Stray Mob of his own, seeking new adventures in a calmer household. His natural aloofness and tendency to strike poses whenever someone is around proves he'll make an excellent "Wild Pair" with a loving family ready to give him all the attention he could desire and prove that opposites really do attract.
