Font - I took my well trained cat to the vet yesterday and only had him on a leash instead of in a cage because he hates that.

The good boi is well-trained! But it does not really matter how well-trained a four-legged feline is, doggos will always be easily instigated. And it just might be a smarter move to keep the cats contained at the vet's office.

Font - While I was checking in at the front desk this guy walks in with a dog (also on a leash) and it immediately goes mental at the site of my cat. It's barking and straining on its lead which the guy is struggling to keep a grip on.

Doggo has locked in on target, doggo is approaching.

Font - My cat is sitting on my feet between the desk and my legs, back arched and fur sticking up but not hissing or growling just kind of frozen. The receptionist is yelling at the guy to get his dog under control or get out while he's yelling at me for being so stupid as to have a cat in public on a leash instead of in a cage.

Okay, but the mans has got a point. Cats on leashes in public places? Maybe not the move. But also! Who is to say??

Font - The vet comes out of the exam room and makes this guy go and wait outside with his dog, checks that the receptionist and myself are ok and then tells me next time I should just bring my cat in a cage instead of on a leash. I told him that was stupid and unfair but he, the receptionist and angry dog guy all seem to think I'm an asshole for bringing my pet to the vets office on a leash, am I?

Font - Edit: Thanks for all your comments, I'll be using a carrier from now on to protect my boy from all the unhinged dogs and their owners who have messaged me telling me I'm asking for violence.

No, you shouldn't really have to have your cat in a cage if dogs can be leashed, but yes, you should do it. I don't think you're the asshole for doing it once, but YWBTA to do it again after being told what the protocol is. It's possibly even in their instructions pre-visit to bring smaller noncanine animals in crates or cages. 11.2k Reply Share •..

Font - catonaleash_ OP · 16 hr. ago This was my first visit to this particular vet as I moved to the area about 7 months ago. I didn't look for specific requirements for bringing your pet in but having a look at their website now and there is nothing suggesting cats need to be in a carrier. There is a picture of a cat wearing a harness though so presumably this isn't a new idea to them. 3.6k 5 Reply Share •..

Font - tabbyretard · 15 hr. ago NTA. I always take my cat to vet on a leash because he doesn't come out of the carrier and we have to disassemble it to get him out at the vet. He has a chronic illness and has to go to the vet every few weeks. We encounter dogs all the time and never saw any go crazy like this. Nobody has ever said anything rather they love the sight of a cat walking on a leash. The dog you encountered is not a well trained dog and the vet should be talking to his owner about res

Font - fragilemagnoliax · 14 hr. ago My main concern: is being right worth the safety of your cat? You're right, you shouldn't need to put your cat into a carrier, if dogs come in leashed then cats should be allowed too. So NTA about that. But unfortunately dogs are often bigger than cats and some are aggressive. If that one had gotten free (like tugged the leash out of the owners hand) would being in the right be worth the possible injury to your cat? However I will say that I do go to a cat on
