It's a story as old as time itself - when a dad claims to not want a pet, and then, inevitably, those dads reluctantly break down and get a pet anyway. They will act as if those pets don't even exist, they will tell you that those pets are entirely your responsibility and that that want absolutely nothing to do with those pets. It will happen. It always happens. And then, just as predictably, those dads fall on love with the pets they didn't want.
Of course, the dads keep pretending to be aloof when it comes to these pets. It doesn't even matter whether they are - in that moment - holding the dog in their arms or have the cat sprawled out on their bellies. They will pretend, and we will take pictures to send in the family group chats later. Sigh, we love stories of dads and the pets they 'didn't' want, that's one of our all-time favorite genres.
"Took in a pregnant stray late last year. Once the kittens were old enough I found good homes for them among my friends. One of their dads said absolutely not, don't even think about it. He brought him over for Christmas and now their inseparable."
"My dad was always against cats because his mother was terrified of them. My mom and I came home with Sage as a kitten without telling him. She immediately farted in his face and laid on his favorite blanket (he was furious). 4 years later they're best friends and still sharing that blanket :)"
"Dad thought Mouse's ears were too cold so he went inside and heated up a wheat bag and proceeded to hold Mousey's ears against it! Sure does care for a cat he complains about being too 'needy' all the time — you created him!!!"
