'I feel extremely uncomfortable in my own home': Host gets petty Airbnb guest's stay terminated after she sneaks out 7 times to open the safety gate to allow the owner's dog to escape

We have an idea for a new best-selling book: a compilation of the most ridiculous Airbnb host stories. Can you imagine? There must be hundreds, nay, thousands of stories from hosts around the world that had to deal with some cooky and off-kilter guests. For example - these guests posted online showing their Airbnb residence surrounded by wolves howling. That must have been a fun call to deal with. The story in this post had the opposite problem, though. Instead of keeping dogs out, they couldn't keep the dog in!

One host accepted a long-term stay from an Airbnb guest who continually snuck out to open the safety gate outside, which was meant for her dog's security. It was the only thing keeping her from running out of their property, and she kept opening it in the middle of the night for seemingly no reason. After catching them on camera, she called Airbnb and had her stay pawsitively terminated. Bye, see you never!

    I was looking for a roommate so I rented out a room long term on air bnb. She's been here for about three weeks. The first two weeks were fine, but ever since I got back from a trip a few days ago, things have become really uncomfortable.

  • This is such a petty and strange thing to do. Also, just straight up annoying. The dog didn't do anything to her, so why should she do something that could potentially mess with this doggo's life? Some people just have no empathy.

  • That's certainly no fun, but not worthy of sneaking out in the middle of the night to continuously open a safety gate. The proportion of action to reaction is not equal at all. And, if you're going to try and get back at someone, why would you choose something that requires so much effort?

    Even before the bar thing, there were early signs. One time I borrowed the dish soap from the kitchen to use in my room for a couple minutes. She immediately texted me asking me to put it back because she needed to wash dishes. I brought it back and apologized, but she didn't say anything. She just turned away and walked off.

    When I was gone after I about four days I checked the security cameras and noticed that my security cameras have been turned off. I figured she had accidentally flipped the switch. When I came back home I turned them on. A couple minutes later she comes out her room and turns them back off. I never turn them off myself.

    Being petty is one thing but endangering my dog or him potentially getting out and attacking someone else's dog or following someone that's scared of him causes me liability.

    Capable_Push4119 Kick her out now before she can claim rights to the property. If she passes 30 days you will have to evict her which can take months. Tell Airbnb the rules she broke & that you want her out. By breaking the terms she sacrifices any already paid rent. Airbnb will help with having her removed & finding her somewhere else to go.
