Picture this: You have a cat. You love this cat. This cat also enjoys going outside and strolling around its immediate environment, which in the case we will soon describe, means an outdoor section of an apartment complex. Only one day, while your cat is out for a little adventure in the complex, he does not return home.
You are immediately concerned, and think of your neighbor whom you instructed not to let your cat in any further after he would disappear for long periods of time and then be found…where? At the neighbor's house. the original poster of this thread was immediately critiqued for even allowing his/her dog to be let outside, but we think that these comments lack some cultural awareness. Outside of the United States, it is totally normal and even encouraged for house cats to get some outside time and be able to explore their surroundings. Given this fact, we definitely do not think that OP is the a-hole here, but many Redditors are ready to disagree with us. What do you think? Dive into the details of the thread to get all the facts before making your decision!
We say, no. Your neighbor is clearly ignoring all of the hints you have given, sometimes one needs to be direct and even a little harsh to really get their point across. People will choose to ignore subtle hints, but direct and clear language can not be ignored.
"That friendship lasted until our cat started spending more and more time at her place. More and more frequently our routine was interrupted when M (our cat) would stay at her place overnight."
We LIVE for routine. If something becomes a disruption in our daily routine, we take care of it real fast.
"He started to act differently with us. We'd let him out after he kept begging and he would just end up inside her appartment. He'd skip breakfast and dinner sometimes. He stopped playing and purring. We got jealous and missed our little friend and the relationship we had."
And this is where we say 'so long' to the neighbor. She can get her own cat.
