Wait, Is This A Troll Post?

Font - I (27F), am experiencing vision loss, I am not totally blind yet but it'll happen eventually. My girlfriend (27F) doesn't like dogs much, there is no allergy or anything there and she is not afraid of them she just doesn't like them. I am struggling in my day to day life and know a guide dog would help me and my GP has advised I apply for one. My girlfriend and I don't live together yet but we have discussed it, she didn't want me to apply for the guide dog as she didn't want to live with

At first glance, we didn't think this could be real. Someone is going through a real, life-changing medical situation and the person who is supposed to be their rock is advocating that they make things harder on themselves? How does this make any sense? We feel awful for what the woman is going through, but it sounds like the worst thing going on is that they're stuck dating an animal-hating monster!

    Good Call, Girlfriend!

Human body - I ended up applying for the guide dog anyway and am waiting on approval and she is angry with me I understand she doesn't want a dog but as we're not living together yet and also a thing I need for my day to day life I don't feel I did anything wrong by following my GP's advice.

Thankfully, OP decided to ignore their girlfriend's nonsense excuses and apply for a guide dog anyway. If the dog will really have that much of an effect on their life, we're glad they made the decision for themselves instead of blindly following someone else's lead (pun intended). Still, we just had to keep reading this thread to see what all the commenters had to say about OP's girlfriend. And let us tell you, these comments definitely did not disappoint.

We Love The x (Infinity) Disclaimer Here

Font - A Apotheuncary · 5 days ago Certified Proctologist [28] Okay, is this serious? You are facing a slow decline and want help and your gf isn't supportive because she (checks notes) doesn't love dogs? This is the most selfish thing I've ever heard. You have every right to apply for and get the help you need. She can like it or lump it. Her preferences have ZERO standing in your safety, health, and emotional well being. Good luck with everything. I'm sorry about your vision, but I'm glad you'

This Woman Is Def NTA Either

Font - sloth_lizzie · 4 days ago Definitely NTA. Honestly, I'm not a dog person. But my spouse wanted one to help with their depression and I said of course. Would I choose to have a dog if I were single? No. But I'm not single and what's important to my partner is important to me. I hope your gf finds a heart or you find a new gf who has one. 19 Reply Give Award Share Report Save Follow

    This Is Some Solid Advice

Font - AlexandrinaIsHere · 4 days ago NTA Would like to add though that long cane use will still be needed any time the dog is unwell, at the groomers, etc. I've heard most (if not all) guide dog organizations require blind applicants to have good cane skills, so you are willing and able to let the dog rest if they're unwell. But I've heard a few people describe good cane skills as having a nice bicycle and having a guide dog is like having a sports car. Very large difference in safe walking spe

    This Ain't Some Normal Dog

Font - FlahBlast · 4 days ago Partassipant [4] It's a working dog too! It won't destroy the house, jump on people, bark into the night, hump your leg, is more disciplined on public transport than 99% of humans and won't do most of the behaviours that anti dog people hate about dogs. It's a frickin guide dog so it's not like she'd ever be called on to walk him. But her annoyance at dogs somehow trumps her gf she supposedly cares abouts ability to be able to be able to cross the road safely

Get The Dog, Lose The Girlfriend

Rectangle - Merri-Weather · 4 days ago Partassipant [1] Agreed with this! Under the law, service animals like guide dogs are classified as medical equipment. (I think -- I could be misremembering, so someone can correct me if I am wrong.) So, she doesn't want you to have medical equipment that will make your life easier? NTA. Get the dog, lose the girlfriend.

    Who The F@&$ Is Right!

Font - OpinionatedAussieGal · 4 days ago Partassipant [2] Who the f@&$ doesn't want someone to get a guide dog to help them with life? Like does she want to control your every move? Make sure you can never leave the house. Get the dog!

    Red Flags For Days

Font - Disastrous_Name161 · 5 days ago · edited 5 days ago Asshole Enthusiast [5] ► NTA. Red flag alert! Guide dogs are the best resource for vision impaired people because they see for you. Walking with a cane does not provide the same level of security as a dog does. She would literally rather take away a major part of your independence as a person because she doesn't 'like' dogs than inconvenience herself a little bit.
