First of all, let's talk about the difference between emotional support animals and service animals. Emotional support animals are NOT considered service animals, and only service animals are protected under the ADA. Service doggos perform essential life-saving services for their humans, and it is literally dangerous for them to be separated from their humans. Emotional support doggos, while being totally valid and adorable, if removed from their humans momentarily, there is no life-threatening danger.
The dog described by the original poster of this ridiculous Reddit thread is most certainly not a service dog, in fact her owner has purchased her a fake service dog vest because she feels like she is entitled to special treatment from the world. Interesting. Anyway, when OP's sister in law shows up with her emotional support dog after being explicitly told not to bring her for a variety of reasons you will all soon learn about, you best believe that drama ensued. Let's get into the nitty gritty details.
"She got a fake Service Dog jacket for the dog so she could take it into restaurants, shopping malls, and other places that don't allow dogs."
And this is where we lose any and all sympathy we had for the SIL in this situation.
