Microsoft were really onto something when they called their browser Internet Explorer. If we can put aside our experiences and opinions of its legendary slowness and uselessness and just focus on the name, whatever marketing exec painstakingly workshopped those two words together in the nineties really hit the nail on the head. When we're using it for entertainment at least, we do all use the internet like we're going on an adventure, albeit one that involves the same handful of websites we always visit and often provide the same predictable outcomes of either making us mad or stopping us being horny. Thankfully, we've got the existence of memes to spice up these predictable outcomes with a dash of the unexpected. We're never more aligned with the best parts of online chaos than when we're soaking up the humor that comes from it. Finding something funny on a semi-regular basis is the most important function of this whole thing, after all.
