It really should go without saying that you should never record someone without their knowledge, regardless of the location or circumstance. It doesn't matter if that person is in your home. No matter what, that person is going to feel violated and betrayed. (An obvious exception to this rule is if you or someone else is in a possibly dangerous or threatening situation.)
So, yeah, if you're recording a guest in your home without their permission, don't be surprised if that person is upset when they discover what you have been up to.
This thread was posted to Reddit's r/AITA subreddit, which became a highly controversial post. It only netted a net positive of 250 upvotes but had nearly the same number of comments.
It was posted by one of the child's parents who was being babysat on a "throwaway" Reddit account, u/throwaway7394890.
In the post, the parent describes the situation, and it essentially boils down to the fact that even though they claimed to "trust" the sitter, they left monitors recording without her knowledge. Then they accidentally let slip of that fact and are acting like she shouldn't be upset.
Of course, the poster has been getting utterly destroyed in the comments by readers who have no forgiveness for their actions.
