"[Nate] was very shy at first," said HCAC Animal Facility Manager Andrew Hodnett. "He was very timid toward people."

Per county regulations, a 10-day hold was placed on Nate in case his owner was out looking for him. However, no one showed up to claim him, and he's now up for adoption and ready to find a forever home.

By this point, Nate had time to become more familiar with his temporary caretakers. After they treated his slight upper respiratory infection with antibiotics, Nate was able to show off his real personality.

"After a couple of days, he really started to come around," Andrew expressed. "He was more comfortable with everybody."

"I think he was just very nervous at first, and with a little human interaction, he's turned out to be very sweet," he added.

It took him time, but after he knew he was safe, Nate started taking an interest in all the dedicated caretakers with HCAC. Although there's no telling how long Nate spent outside, he prefers the comfort of indoors, and even though he has the curiosity of any cat, he wants peace, quiet, and affection.

"It got to the point where he was able to be held," Andrew explained. "Gradually, he gravitated towards purring and liked to be pet, and he's turned out to be a very nice cat."

Nate isn't a cat that's likely to be a brilliant ball of energy leaping across living room furniture and scampering up cat trees. He's more of a lap cat ready to receive head scratches and back rubs on the couch. With all his shots up to date, Nate would be an excellent cat for any home looking for a relaxed playmate.
