Font - i (f18) have a couple cats, lizards, snakes and tarantulas, so i frequently make trips to my local pet store. i also occasionally take my bearded dragon with me because she enjoys attention and being on my shoulder as i walk around, after a couple times the employees recognize me and i remember them. about a week ago there was a guy i've never seen before, maybe new or i just never came in during his shift, whatever i thought nothing of it. i go to get crickets and he comes to help me, ma

Font - small talk about what animals i have and such. he was nice and gave me the crickets and i went to get whatever else i needed. he was at the register and at this store they always ask for your phone number so that you can get points and rewards, i put it in the pin pad thinking absolutely nothing, pay and leave. a couple hours later i get a text along the lines of "Hey this is - from the pet store!" i was super confused and kinda creeped out? the

Font - store!" i was super confused and kinda creeped out? the next morning i called the store and spoke to a manager, then told them what happened. when i brought this up to my brother he said i should've just ignored him instead of potentially getting him fired. i only said anything because i'm not sure how their system works and if they can see personal information that's linked to my account, but i have my address, number and cards on it, i also wouldn't feel comfortable going back to the st

He ruined your trust, and his employer's trust. He NEEDS to be fired, and we can only hope that he will learn from this. Your brother needs to take this seriously. "Being nice" is not your responsibility here.

Font - Original DogeStar . 3 days ago Partassipant [1] Depending on the company. You can now request no physical address to be stored on file. I have done this for a few stores lately, even going as far as putting my spam email address as contact point. I also don't use my legal name, just a nickname, which these places really shouldn't be asking for government ID to confirm. If I get a call with the nickname, I see if it is legit or not, most times it isn't and I hang up.

Some good advice. Write this down folks!

Font - Omlette87 3 days ago OP, you are NTA. I would be weirded out by this. I didn't even know places had this in depth of info just from buying in-person. I work at a store where we ask for phone number and email to sign up for coupons and to get option of email receipt. I was always so baffled when ppl would put in their number and when I ask what their email is so i could put it in they would be like, "it's my name." and i would just ask, "and what is that?" They would be surprised that I do

Font - mariposa2013. 3 days ago OP, if you want to see just how very NTA you were to report this, lookup how many women have been hurt or killed (just happened to a woman working at Walgreens) by some rando creepy guy who was "just being nice". This man unethically used personal information you provided to a business for his personal desires. Reporting that to the business is the correct thing to do.

If he really wanted her number, he could have ASKED HER FOR IT. At this point, she would be able to choose for herself whether or not to give it to him. It's the fact that he used his company's computer system to find her private information AND THEN attempted to contact her that really makes this creepy.
