We have all heard those typical yet super wholesome cat adoption stories, right? We have read about rehomed kitties finally getting adopted, we have read about senior cats finally finding their forever homes where they will get to live out their final days, we have even given love to all the forgotten rescued street cats. But, there is one kind of adoption story that is somehow even more special than all of these.
Stories of cats adopting humans are on a completely different level. It can be a senior kitty, a street kitty, an injured kitty or just a kitty that has decided it's done with outdoor life and that it's time to get adopted. Getting chosen by a cat like that - that's a privilege, and no matter how many stories like that we read, they always hit us somewhere right in our very hearts. So, whenever you guys share them with us, we feel the need to share them with everyone else as well.
"This guy ran up to me at the shelter and insisted on being picked up and petted. I put him down, picked up another cat, and he insisted on more attention. Again after the third cat I picked up. He was equally insistant with my husband. The cat clearly picked us. That was over 15 years ago and Ludwig is sitting on my lap as I type this."
"All the feral kittens ran as soon as I came out on my deck, except one. She loved me from the second she met me. Fast-forward a couple of months and she becomes deathly ill with a rare case of vertigo. As I was at the vet, lamenting how, out of all the healthy kittens in my yard, I get the one sickly one who loves me, my vet tech looked at me and said, "maybe she sensed she was different and knew she was going to need you." My heart melted. She's been my tilty-head baby for five years now"
"I went to the shelter to see a different kitten i had seen online. The kitten was so frightened and wouldn't come near me. i happened to see my current cat (then named Stewy, now Neville) and the girl at the shelter said "Oh you should meet him." I sat down in a chair while she we t to get him, she put him on the floor. He walked over to me, climbed all the way up from my foot to my shoulder and snuggled into me. He hasn't stopped climbing up to my shoulders for snuggles since!"
"I was in search of a kitten and found a woman giving away kittens on a flyer. I went to her house and found she was a cat hoarder. She had dozens of cats and kittens including this awful sick tiny tiny black and white filthy runt kitten that I doubt would have survived much longer. I asked repeatedly but she refused to let me have her. Her floor was crusty it was so covered in waste and I really needed this kitten to be rescued. When the woman went to open the door for me to leave I scooped up the kitten and put her in my purse. The woman was none the wiser at least until I had left. I called animal control when I got home. The kitten survived for 24 years as The Notorious BFK (big fat kitty) and was my first cat and my absolute baby. Her favorite foods were Thai coconut curry and Popeyes chicken. She loved opera and hated any men with spikey hair."
"Our cat Lady Daga adopted a stray (since named Gemini) who was hanging around and eating her leftovers. She did not give us a choice in the matter. This picture was taken at the vet, where we brought Lady Daga as Gemini's comfort animal to keep him calm for shots and detesticlation. Gemini is the one looking at the camera in this picture."
"My old cat adopted my current cat. I was just gonna keep her until we could find a fitting home. My cat fell in LOVE. And here we are, 13 years later."
"This guy totally adopted my daughter. We went to look at kitties and glanced quickly at him as his tag mentioned he wasn't good with young kids and that didn't mesh with our family. Turns out we were wrong. He saw our daughter and feel in love with her and cried when she was out of site and as soon she came back into his field of vision he would start purring"
"We were given a litter of kittens someone was going to take the the shelter. We let them run around and one of them went up to my wife and curled up in her neck and followed her everywhere. He's been ours ever since."
"12 years ago our local humane society was showing cats at the local Petsmart. We asked if we could play with one of the kittens in the little room to see how his personality was. He was the only black kitty. After they shut the door he jumped in my purse, looked at me and meowed like he was saying "ok time to go". Needless to say we took him home."
"Bear was a surrender to the local shelter at 4 years old. I stopped and loved on him before moving to the next cage of kitties. But he wasn't done getting petted so he would splash me from his water bowl. Now he's stuck with me. As you can see, he lives a pampered life"
"I have 3 adpotees and 2 adoptors. 1 adopter the next door neighbours moved out 3 years ago. Left her behind. 2nd Adoptor literally stood under my house and yelled. I thought it was one of the cats who lived here already. Until I realised she was asleep beside me. Go outside there is this skinny orange boy, so I have him some food and clean water went back out a bit later he imitator on coming inside made himself comfy. I couldn't find his owner and he wasn't chipped."
"My girl (tuxedo) was 50/50 - we chose each other. My boy (grey tabby) chose me. He had been at the shelter for a year with no one showing an interest. I walked by him myself. He kind of blended in with kitty condo. All of a sudden, one of the shelter workers gasped because he had followed me upstairs as I was checking out the cats that were hanging around up there. He NEVER followed anyone ever and usually tried to bite anyone that tried to pet him. Both of my sweet babies were adopted from shelter to home in Wyandotte Michigan. They are the best place to adopt from"
"Posh was a foster from another foster family at my husband's work. They had to go out of town so we agreed to keep her for for a little while. She's still with us after over 4 years… when the foster parents brought her over, she strolled out of the pet carrier, looked around & decided it'll do."
