Former 5-Star Waiter Discusses the Lies Every Server Tells, Sparks Debate Online with the 'Karen Employees' of the Service Industry

If you have worked in the service industry, then you know how frustrating it can be—some would even argue “soul-sicking.” When it comes to the employee dynamics and relationships, it's either love or hate. You are either super tight with your co-workers, most of you are all probably hooking up with each other, or you absolutely despise them. When you're working in that kind of environment, there is no in-between. Mac, a comedian and writer, took to social media to give a healthy rant of his experience from the past working in the service industry. He reveals that every server always lies. He says it's just part of the job. Servers don't have time to explain what's in that very complicated cocktail, so if you ask, then the restaurant is probably out of it for you.

Some fellow service industry employees are hearing what he says and absolutely agree. You can't go back to the chef (who is usually very explosively mean while working) and ask them every little question a customer has—so you lie to keep everybody happy.

However, not everybody who works in the service industry agrees with what Mac is saying. Some are in fact offended by it. Servers are commenting things like, “I fully tell my customers when I hate a dish I ain't gonna lie to them" and reprimanding him for saying waiters lie. Mac created a follow-up video to these people who he calls the “Karens” of the employees. Turns out that there aren't just Karen customers, but also employees.

He goes on saying that these Karen employees are always the one calling out the rest of the staff for doing tiny things to keep them sane throughout the day. They're the ones who request everyone stay after their shift to help clean, they call you out for not using the proper work vocab, and they love to say “Yes chef!" whenever they can. It's like that kind at the end of your school day who raises their hand and tells the teacher they forgot to assign the class homework…

Though there some are “Karen” employees coming after what Mac is saying in his videos about lying, most of the comments are in support. Turns out many service industry folk absolutely lie to the customers when necessary and guess what, it almost always works at keeping everyone involved happy.
