'This is 'merica': Karen chooses Spanish on customer service line, then demands to speak in English
This Karen either made a mistake and doubled down or was just trying to start a fight. Either way, she can go.
This thread was posted on Reddit's r/F***YouKaren subreddit by u/pucketypuck, a bilingual customer service agent who shared their story of being scolded by a Karen for speaking in Spanish when she literally opted to speak in Spanish. It's possible she did this to try to get to an actual representative sooner, which honestly if that works, could save us all a lot of time. Well, those of us that can actually speak the language, that is.
We've all had our own customer service experiences when the impulse to pull a Karen move stirs from within, but we must fight that impulse unless it's absolutely necessary. For instance, have you ever tried canceling your Spectrum Wifi account? Good luck because the system will do everything it can to keep charging you. But this, of course, is not the fault of any customer service representative. Only a Karen would know that and choose to raise her voice anyway. As for the "this is 'merica" nonsense, according to Pew Research Center, the U.S. Hispanic population reached 62.1 million in 2020; that's 19% of the US population. Meaning that almost 1/5 of 'merica is Hispanic. Read that and weep, Karen!
