In Hawaii, thousands upon thousands of feral and abandoned cats wander the streets, fields, and beaches of the "Aloha State." Numerous rescue and adoption groups work feverishly to provide relief to ailing felines, with many dipping into their own pockets for medical care, food, and plane tickets for cats to forever homes on the U.S. mainland.
Although most associations rely on donations from supportive patrons, some have found a way to capitalize on domestic cat care to help felines in the island's wilds.

Chris Thompson, owner and operator of Lucky Paws Animal Foundation, is on a mission to help distressed felines on Oahu by providing rescue assistance and rehabilitation programs to relocate cats to loving families. While he's been engaged in the work for years, it took clever planning to move away from paying out of pocket for the livelihoods of hundreds of cats. He explained that vacation rental homes and hotel rooms just weren't a sustainable solution to the problem at hand.
Fortunately, becoming a non-profit allowed them to solicit funds and get more involved in Hawaii's cat rescue operations. However, he needed a home base from which to launch a larger undertaking.
"When I started Lucky Paws our first goal was to find a location we could take all our cats to," he said. This meant a brick-and-mortar site that could handle a feral convalescent room, neo-natal kittens, the sick and injured, and, most recently, a place where people leaving the island for vacation or business trips could house their own cats.
Boasting over 2,000 sq-ft of space, the Lucky Paws Cat Resort gives Hawaiians a place where their pets can enjoy private overnight accommodations. In a climate-controlled, air-purified kitty condo featuring spacious suites and plenty of soft bedding, there are enough enrichment toys to preoccupy any energetic feline. Not only will cats be able to bask in relaxation with calming music and TV screens with birds, squirrels, and landscapes, but pet parents will have access to two cameras to keep an eye on their loved ones.
The Cat Resort can accommodate up to 70 cats at one time, with spaces for individuals or up to a clowder of six. When people drop off their pets at Lucky Paws, they will also be helping fellow felines in need as all funds go directly into the cat rescue operations.
