Font - r/r/MaliciousCompliance Posted by u/CarltheWellEndowed 7 hours ago No, that is not a company spot, that is my spot... M OC When I started at my new company, we had used all assigned parking spots in the adjacent parking garage, and I was given a spot in a building a couple of blocks away. When I got in early one morning and had to be let in by security as the building was not yet unlocked, I talked with the security guard briefly, and this started a bit of a friendship. After a week or so

Font - He ended up giving me one of the extra spots that was assigned to the security staff. I was only allowed to park there Monday-Thursday as they needed the spot for cleaning crews on Friday. This spot is only about 20 feet from the pedestrian bridge to the building, so it is a pretty nice set-up. We also have 2 company visitor spots in the same adjacent lot, however they are on the top floor (along with the rest of the spots assigned to our company), exposed to the sun, and require walking

Font - We have had a Senior Engineer visiting from a different office for the last two weeks, parking in the visitor's spot. On Tuesday we went to our cars together, and he saw where I was parked. Well when I got to work yesterday, he was already in my parking spot. I headed up to one of the visitor spots, and let him know that he needed to move his vehicle out of my spot, or his car might be towed (we are right downtown and have many people who park in this garage without permission).

Font - He told me that it was fine, don't worry about it, it was a company parking spot, and that could just stay in the visitor's spot. I told him that I really did not think that was a good idea, and tried to explain, but he brushed me off. I followed up with an email letting him know that the spot was not leased by our company, but that I just had permission to park there until a spot opened in the garage.

Font - I parked in my assigned spot in the other parking garage (boss man does not like non-visitors parking in the visitor's spot so I was not about to stay there) and didn't worry about it, just like I was told. Well come lunch time, Senior Engineer comes storming back into the office. Apparently, Security Guard saw that the vehicle parked in my spot was not my sh Civic, but rather a Tesla, and decided to have the vehicle towed.

Font - Not exactly sure what came of this, and I bet I will find out later today, but I am happy that I sent the CYA email as Senior Engineer outranks me by a considerable margin, and I do not need someone thinking that I left him high and dry out of spite. I should note that while we have spots assigned to our company, each vehicle gets assigned its own spot. Occasionally we will have people park in our assigned spots, and Security will call our office to confirm if this is someone we are allow

Font - UPDATE: Not the satisfying update I was hoping for at all. Apparently Senior Engineer called and complained to building management. He explained the situation, and it turns out that security did not have the authority to allow me to park in this spot. Sounds like Security Guard got chewed out, and I am really hoping this did not impact his job... I lost my parking in the close garage. Boss man is not upset with me which is the only good thing about this. Senior Engineer was bing to anyone

Font - lemoinem 5 hr. ago This update is infuriating... This is why we can't have nice things, seriously. One idiot comes in and fu things up without any sort of repercussion...

Font - KnoWanUKnow2.5 hr. ago I actually saw this coming. Complete with the security guard getting a dressing down. I think I've been working for a bureaucracy for far too long.

Font - GlassHalfSmashed 4 hr. ago . I can actually see this turning into a much wider review of parking and a bean counter deciding that shift or remote working means they can cope with fewer spaces, only to ignore the fact that there is an overlap between those clocking in / out, or that they've assumed a flat level of remote working that doesn't allow for peak days. OP should have simply spoke with security to let them know that guy may be in it for a fortnight. Rule #1 of informal arrangement

Malicious compliance feels great, but it can leave you high and dry. Always assume you don't know the full story and be helpful to anyone who has been helpful to you. In this case, letting the security guard know. It may have been that senior engineer asked a superior if he could snag another employees spot for his time in the office and the superior said sure

Font - Tavrock 17 min. ago It may have been that senior engineer asked a superior if he could snag another employees spot for his time in the office and the superior said sure. That's very likely what happened, and the problem to begin with. Any engineer worth their salt understands the importance of Role, Responsibility, and Authority. While it is nice to check about swapping spots with management, they have neither the Role, Responsibility, nor Authority to enable the swap.

Font - OP has clearly stated three facts: 1. each spot has an associated pass that goes with it. 2. people who should not park in the garage and are towed. 3. security has the Role, Responsibility and Authority for issuing and changing parking passes. Clearly the Senior Engineer neglected to notify Security, ask for the appropriate pass, or listen to the repeated admonition from others that certain behaviors are not tolerated by Security. I really hope Security continues to monitor a certain Tes

Font - CarltheWellEndowed OP 3 hr. ago Yeah, I probably should have said something to security, but I also assumed that, if it was an issue, we would hear about it in our office. I was completely unaware that this was an informal agreement at the time. Security handles the parking passes, and I was given a parking pass for the spot.

Font - Tavrock 7 min. ago The Senior Engineer didn't coordinate with security to get permission to park in the spot they wanted. It was clearly not marked for that company or for visitors. OP didn't have the Role, Responsibility or Accountability to swap passes. OP's management couldn't do that either. The only organization that could make that change was Security, and they work for the garage, not OP's company. OP lost their spot, but I kind of hope Security takes a hard line on this and threat
