We all have some inner control freak in us, that bit of perfectionism that keeps us on our feet during the day. There's a reason there are so many bewildering videos online that strangely captivate us. Oddly satisfying videos basically portray repetitive events or actions that viewers find pleasing. We don't make the rules, guys.
We enjoy watching fresh white and yellow paint being drawn over old roads, tall green trees being cut down into perfect rectangles (ready to become your furniture), dominoes falling down in perfect lines, and of all things - even watching the shoe-making process. We can't keep our eyes off it, but we don't know why. Seemingly hypnotized, it's inexplicably satisfying. It's basically brain food. According to Professor Robert Colombo, watching these videos causes a person's brain to release chemicals that bring cheerfulness, contentment, and positivity - namely, serotonin and dopamine. These are the same neurotransmitters that fire when people get notifications on their phones, eat sugar, and have sex.
So if it's been a bit of a dry period for you, and you're missing out on one (or more) of these things, take a look at these interesting videos we found on the subreddit (All hail, Reddit) 'Satisfyingasfuck'.
