One of the main reasons that people first domesticated cats was because they were beneficial to the household. They didn't require much care and they were usually pretty independent. Nowadays, house cats have abolished their original purpose and have become the antithesis of their ancestral utility. Modern house cats no longer catch rats that would transmit disease to their family, they have food allergies that make them soil the house regularly instead. Cats no longer are self-sufficient and independent like their predecessors, cats are needy and defiant for the sake of defiance. If you buy a plushy, tem-purr-pedic kitty bed for them, they're just going to sleep in the box in came in, just to prove a point.
House cats have become considerably more ungovernable in the last several centuries and decades of being babied have caused the swift unraveling of millenniums of evolutionary advancement. Cats are no longer the pliable useful predators we thought they were, now they're in the rebellious teen years of their species.
