Few stories of malicious compliance are more satisfying than the ones where the complier outdoes the "enforcer of rules" in a battle of pettiness, and this redditor's post is a perfect example. When OP decided to get rid of their car, they had no need for an assigned parking spot at their apartment complex, and so they asked their property manager to waive the monthly parking upcharge. Needless to say, the landlord gave 'em the old "rules are rules" line and refused. Instead of eating the cost, OP calculated a genius plan to profit off the parking spot while following the manager's own rules to a T.
“The best kind of MC is the MC that is shared. Lol. Also, perhaps the MC was the friends we made along the way.” said u/jameson8016.
“Yeah I love how it’s ‘rules are rules’ until it’s suddenly ‘wait! Sir. SIr!!’” said u/FaustsAccountant.
“'Oh, we cannot remove the charge without breaking the lease, sorry' Begins losing money 'Hey, let's write a quick addendum to the lease, what do you say?'” said u/Amazon-Prime-package.
“I like that analogy. It's very accurate.” said OP.
“So, if you are legally parked and your company tows you anyway, that's felony theft. Reimbursement, rent reduction, and maybe even jail time.” said OP.
