For centuries, dogs have assisted humans with farm work, and there are countless dog breeds that are easy to train and adjust well to living in a rural countryside setting. These dogs have been bred specifically to thrive doing farm work. They have all kinds of roles on the farm, some of which include protecting the farm and its inhabitants, getting rid of vermin (yuck), plus they are also great for helping with all kinds of tasks, including herding livestock.
A farm dog well trained is a very important element of farm security. But they are also living beings who like anyone else, need affection and kindness. They aren't just ‘there for the job’ and that's it. They still need familiarity with their people, and to feel comfortable. Why are we relaying all this information? Because we read an interestingly (sad) post on the AITA subreddit, where somebody shared that he was mad at his girlfriend for giving his farm dogs ‘nicknames’ and for ‘petting/cuddling’ them. He went as far as to tell her she wasn't welcome on the farm anymore.
We may not have firsthand experience with farm dogs, but like any other dog that must be trained for any other job, they still need to feel love! How can someone be mad at their partner for simply handing out affection? There is no logical reason that it would interfere with the dogs doing their job. Let them be happy! Why be bitter? Scroll down to read exactly what went down, and how the ending turned out.

Short answer is yes, you are the AH. But let's allow our other fellow Redditers to decide, shall we?

‘I’ve never seen a dog less functional at its job for receiving more love'. This sentence right here, ladies and gentlemen. Couldn't have said it any better myself…

Lots of good points are being made here. We like the way this thread is going…

There seems to be a general consensus here that the poster is an AH. They aren't wrong… In a way, the internet is saving relationships and the happiness of dogs. For more content where people prove themselves to be total AH's, click here.
