Font - Boss says she "doesn't pay me to sit in my car" after I show up 10 minutes early and wait 40 minutes for someone to come unlock the door. This just happened this morning. For clarification, I work at a law firm. I'm supposed to show up at 8:30, but it's payday today so I show up 10 minutes early to pick up and review my check. There was supposed to be someone at the office already to let me in, but when I get here, the parking lot was empty and the doors were locked. No biggie right? I'll

Font - After we get settled in I told her I'd just write down what time I got here on my punch card. She proceeded to tell me "I don't pay you to sit in your car. Some days this just happens. You start getting paid when you start working." Am I in the wrong here? I wasted 40 minutes of my morning sitting and waiting for my boss, and I'm not even getting paid for it?? At least I got paid for Christmas. EDIT: I am not asking to be paid for the 10 minutes I showed up early for. I completely underst

If I'm late, that's on me and I have to make that up to you, or forgo pay. If you're late, no problem for me, but I'm still due money for my time which is what I sold you. Your fault if you didn't use it." 934 Reply Share

Font - robbynnit 21 hr. ago It's "engaged to wait" vs "waiting to be engaged" You were engaged to wait here. Engaged because you were scheduled at 8:30 and waiting for your boss. This is paid time. Waiting to be engaged is like being "on-call". You're waiting for the call to go to work and become engaged, therefore unpaid until engaged. DOL would love to hear about this, I'm sure.

Font - U10 XxRocky88xX 22 hr. ago Maybe not for the ten minutes you were there early, but she told you to show up at 8:30. You were at the site at 8:30, so that's when you start getting paid. If she's running late or (more likely) just decided she doesn't want to come in until 9 or 10, she has to communicate that with her. Put you were there at 8:30 and if she has a problem tough ship
