Redditors had questions too. How could this possibly happen?

Font - Omgbrainerror - 21 hr. ago Stupid question, how it is possible to spend more then the gift card is worth? 1.0k Reply Share OrdinaryBee6174 20 hr. ago Once the gift card is used, it rolls to the next payment method.

Then, OP broke the bad news that "the saga continues" in a followup post.

Folks in the comments were split on if it was the Dad's fault or the son's. Others added info about credit card chargebacks, adding that the OP had put a lot of info out there on Reddit that could be used against him.

Other Redditors commiserated. Who among us hasn't accidentally spent a few (or a hundred) dollars online?

Font - Super Saiyan2589 - 22 hr. ago When I was a kid I had an old Sony ericsson and I found a website that would let you download ringtones for free. I didn't realize you had to pay for the data transfer because, well, I was a kid. A $700 bill and my father almost strangling the life out of me later, they removed it from the bill.

Font - Matt100398 3 hr. ago Your honor I gave my child access to my credit card and technology with known addicting games including IAPs. I didn't make any advances to limit IAPs on his account. And yet he still spent $255, how could this be my fault!?

Font - More Investment6345 3 hr. ago I had kids buying things on apple tv. It happened twice and apple refunded me right away. I then took the steps to ensure my kids could not continue purchasing things by requiring a password. JUST DONT GIVE THEM THE PASSWORD

Font - Wasted Penny. 2 hr. ago Chargebacks are a recourse for criminal fraud, or merchant abuse. Your kid using your credit card is neither of those... Be advised that chargebacks have an appeal process that can be used by the merchant. Your communication with apple regarding this issue can be used by apple to appeal the chargeback showing that you do in fact recognize the charges and the charges do not constitute fraud or merchant abuse. If they do that they might get you in trouble with your b

Font - DefinitelySane Gary 3 hr. ago On his previous post OP said he had password protection for purchases set up but a recent update he installed from apple turned it off. If that's true then it is 100 percent apples fault and he should get a refund. I'm hesitant to believe that is the case though because I would think a ton more people would have issues if that was happening and was probably user error when OP was installing the update and clicked something wrong or didn't read something he sh

Font - MatthewGoodnight1788 14 min. ago I do understand why this is upsetting, but how can you expect a international corporation to care? You're approaching this corporation like the corner store in the 1930s and mom and pop will refund bc they care. Unfortunately, this is a family and children discipline issue. The economic implications are just the bad outcome. The source may be the level of control/respect/discipline in the family. Hope this is something you all can move forward from and hop

Font - of xamOun7ofwords • 17 min. ago So lemme get this straight- you put your phone in the hands of a child without PW protection and now, because you messed up and a kid was a kid, you're going to sell their whole a computer? JFC. How about sitting down and explaining it to them. I saw somewhere the kid is 12 and very few 12 yr olds have any clue about how money works. Yes, they probably knew it wasn't okay to do but also not having a clue as to why. And instead of explaining this and maybe h
