For a lot of cat owners, cat ownership happens kind of out of nowhere. Of course, some people plan the adoption for months on end and make sure that they're ready for it. But, for a lot of us, cat ownership happens not by choice. Well, not by our choice anyway. Sometimes, cats choose their humans, not the other way around, and we… well, we are just forced to go with it.

We have seen it happen many, many times before. We've seen a kitten decide that it's done with outdoor life and sit on someone's driveway until she gets adopted. We have seen a video of a man going on a long hike and returning home with a loud kitten who chose him. We have even seen a teeny weeny abandoned kitten block a man's car and ask him for help. Sigh, we remember when this happened to us. It's always just "for a few days". It always starts with us feeling too bad to leave the kittens alone, taking them because they're cute and adorable and soft, then, in the span of those few days, falling in love so hard that we simply cannot let them go. Cats just have that kind of power.

Ask cat owners, and chances are that a lot of them will have a ridiculous story like that instead of a story of planning and going to a shelter to get a cat. When you're chosen, you're chosen.
