There is a strength in the business world to being extremely particular with how you go about things. Dotting i's, crossing t's, and balancing every column is a sure way to ensure your business smoothly operates — but there is a point where being overly pedantic will only hurt that business.

That's what happened when this idiot boss cost their employee and their company a $300,000 sale, from which the employee was set to earn a $30,000 commission. The boss's repeated insistence that client's payment come through to the penny, despite transaction fees, caused the client to back out of the deal.
If I were to chalk this up to an old saying, it would probably be that this boss should have “seen the forest for the trees," meaning that they should have looked at the bigger picture of what this sale could mean and not been so focused on petty trifles.
