Font - So I had a couple come in last night and they ended up being my last table. The only servers were myself, my guy coworker (I'll call him D), and our bar person (I'll call her A). D and I were closing and it was extremely slow. Tips weren't good for any of us. Even A! So I was giving this couple the best service I could and I eventually brought the ticket. The guy paid and went to the bathroom, so while he was gone I picked up the receipt (even asked the lady if he was done with it and she

Then I went to where D was getting some closing stuff done and I sat to rest my ankle (it got injured the night before with a small tray and was still sore). He asked how that table was and I told him about the stiff. He said that was of them and I told him how I was thinking of being petty and I told him my plan. He said I'd be a legend if I did it. So I did!

Font - I got another silver card and receipt holder and placed the receipt in it with a pen. I half rushed over to the table and the guy was now sitting right beside the girl and I put on my concerned act by saying "I'm so glad I caught you before you left! You forgot to write in your total on the receipt and we always want to make sure our customers get it written so there's no chances of a mistake when everything goes through at the end of the night". He seemed a little caught off guard and sa

Font - I went to the back to start some of my closing duties and D said the guy was looking extremely nervous now. I said he might be embarrassed, but I no longer cared about being stiffed since it felt kinda good to call him on it in a petty way. While I was doing my closing stuff, D went and saw the table was gone so he grabbed the receipt for me and he said "You won't believe this! It worked!"

Font - Sure enough, the guy ended up adding in a small tip!! It wasn't more than maybe 5 percent, but I felt like it was a hundred after that! I felt like the queen of petty

Font - KASchay 17 hr. ago Bartender Oh yeah! This works especially well for low cash tips too! You know how there's always the one guy who wants to be the hero at the table and pay for everybody, only to tip like dog s? Bring him back his change, regardless if he says to keep it or not, and announce it for the whole table to hear. "Ok the check was $210 and here is your $16 dollars of change" while fanning it out on the table on top of the check for all to see. Smile, wish them a great day, and

Font - vandelay714 18 hr. ago Did he really think that 5% was going to make him look better to his date??

Font - ExpertRaccoon 18 hr. ago Might make it worse if he left no tip could spew some moral bs about how he doesn't believe in the tipping system and servers will never be paid fairly unless we all unite and stop.

Font - Mushroom-sprite 18 hr. ago I've done this with customers before when they leave both slots empty. I work in a comedy club, which is a little different of an environment, so I try to assume some people don't know that's my only wage. I've gotten a few tips by politely asking them to fill it in, with only a couple of times they still left nothing. Most customers there are usually generous (especially when they enjoy the comedy show)

Font - asa samantha_the_hermit 19 hr. ago I love this. I feel like this would work really well for a couple on a date. It looks terrible to stiff your waiter in front of your date. So they are stuck with the choice of tipping the waiter or looking bad in front of their date

Font - B WitchyWolf94 OP 18 hr. ago I am 100 percent sure they were on a date! Lol they got all close and were flirting back and forth on a napkin, which I found after they left. Even had an explicit message on it with a question mark

Font - KASchay 10 hr. ago Bartender You're doing a great service. If only the guests somehow knew what the 'hero' tips if he pays via credit card, and we had more people like you, the industry would be a better place.

Font - mayfeelthis 10 hr. ago Well I always ask friends anyway, if there's a hero paying I'd just offer to cover the tip and ask what they left.

Font - That said I'm not a big tipper and this sub makes me feel it lol so I'm really no saviour. Merely from my own finances limiting me btw, I'd pay 10- 15% and am seeing here servers expect way more these days. Thankfully I live where nobody tips nowadays lol (due to servers here being paid properly, we are not in the US).
