Rectangle - crazymom1978 +2 21 days ago He trusts you. He knows that you would never let anything happen to him while he was being vulnerable while eating. We like their dishes in the corner or near a wall to keep them out of the way, but it can make an animal feel a bit cornered.

Font - highfreakingfive +320 days ago My cat would make me walk him to the automatic feeder and point at it. We both heard it go off in the middle of the night maybe he just needed a lookout?

Font - 20 days ago Try a higher shallow bowl, like on a pedestal. That lets him eat without having to go face down in it and feel safer and more aware of his surroundings. Putting the bowl in what feels like a safe space can also help like if you can have his back to a wall or to a corner well he eats, or in a little Nook or dead end. oblivimousness

Font - triggerfish_twist +2. 20 days ago · edited 20 days ago My girl did until I started feeding her on the second highest level of her cat tree. She's able to put her back to the wall behind the tree and eat while observing the rest of the living room from a nice high vantage. I think she feels more secure as she can perform an occular patdown while she crows down.

Font - punksmurph +3 21 days ago I do this for my girl all the time. She paces the hall and meows and I will go with her to the food dish so she can eat. I got her back and she has mine

Organism - +3 21 days ago I never thought of this but I do notice my cat eats more of his wet food when I'm in the room with him. I find it weird bc as a dog person, the general rule is to leave dogs be when they eat but my cat seems to eat more if I give him one or two pets while he's munching. Ok-Grapefruit1284

Font - +1 20 days ago auntiechrist23 I've got an old senior cat who is a slim dude, a picky eater and is on a special diet for a health condition. He just wouldn't eat. It got to the point where I was seriously worried. I figured out that if I sat with him, he had a much better appetite. He's not outta the woods yet, we found food he can have that he likes, and he's doing better. Hanging out with him, and giving a little good boy pet of encouragement seems to help! •

Font - fleeb_ 20 days ago My cat does this like every 10 minutes. He will corner you so he can meow at you, then convince you to follow him to his good bowl and watch him eat. I thought we were the only ones!

Font - billyandteddy +3 21 days ago Cats are most vulnerable to predators when they eat. He trusts you to protect him. And he wants to feel safe to eat. I watch my cat eat so he returns the favor and watches me eat. Mutual trust. 8.1k Reply Share

Font - +2 21 days ago EnsignNogIsMyCat Social eater. Some cats feel vulnerable when they eat (head down, not able to survey, might not be able to hear so well over the mouth noise). Some cats choose to eat only when alone to feel safe, others want a trusted companion to watch out for them while they eat. .
