Hey pals! Welcome back to another juicy animal-themed 'am I the a-hole' post. This one inspired a lot of discussion, and many Redditors we're torn right down the middle on whether or not the original poster is the a-hole in this case. So first things first, we want to state that there is a huge difference between emotional support and service animals. Unlike service and therapy dogs, emotional support animals are not expected to perform specific tasks related to their owner's condition, nor must they adhere to any behavior standards or training. Their presence alone is what is thought to provide their owner with solace and therapeutic benefit. So basically, their owners CAN function perfectly well without them, though their presence is a calming one for their respective owners.
Anyway, the original poster of this AITA post decided to bring an emotional support doggo to their no pet housing complex. And there is the first issue right there. Moving on, OP acts surprised when a neighbor comes to them to complain that doggo is going potty in a kids' play area. OP does not see the issue, as all of the poop gets cleaned up shortly after making its arrival in the kids' play space. We honestly can see this going either way. Our main suggestion is to not bring animals to pet-free housing. You never know your neighbors' reasons for choosing a pet-free environment, and everyone should be respected, especially in their homes and neighborhood where they should feel 100% comfortable.
