I choose you, Squirrelichu!
Everyone dreams of one day finding a cute and cuddly animal in the wild and raising it to be their own. Perhaps as a kid, you stumbled by a helpless baby animal or an injured critter on the side of the road, begging your parents to let you bring it own and train it like a Pokémon, but of course, like most adult humans would agree, your stifling parents said no. They ruined your dream! Well, one woman, Jessica Jolley finally used her “I'm an adult now” trump card to make her childhood dream into a reality.
Jessica found a baby squirrel in the wild (as an adult) and felt her heart swell with love, excitement, and the need to take care of this helpless creature. She raised this adorable squirrel in her home, bottle feeding her, keeping her warm, and attempting to teach her the things a squirrel mother would teach her children. Not only did the squirrel recognize Jessica as her mother, she learned to be handled and loved by humans. Hilariously, this little squirrel always tries to hide her nuts in Jessica's hand, knowing that she'll always be there for her– she might as well have a snackie on hand.
After shoving a whole nut in this exquisite little hide, the squirrel's hands flutter Jessica's fist closed, protecting the nut inside. Not only is this the most heartwarming gesture, but this adorable squirrel has continued to recognize Jessica as a safe hooman even after her release. Even once she was returned to the wild, the squirrel stays close to Jessica's home, checking in occasionally to see how dear ol' mom is doing.
I'm not crying, you're crying. With that, Jessica fulfilled every little kid's fantasy of raising a wild animal as their own, releasing them back to the wild, and being able to summon them at their beckoning call. To be fair, most children probably dream of doing this with a wolf or some other predatory mammal, but a squirrel works just fine too for Jessica. Her girly squirrely can come back whenever she pleases, hiding nuts in her hands at her leisure because that's what a good mum does. They're always there for you even once you've moved out of the house.
