Font - I work as a receptionist at an art museum. It's a lovely job, there are usually two of us at the front desk to greet guests and take admissions. The job itself is fantastic, but I have a coworker (nonbinary) who is a bit of a problem. They are not the sharpest tool in the shed. Forgetting critical procedures, neglecting cleaning duties, misbalancing ledgers, struggling with the basic arithmetic necessary to do the job. It's a thorn in everyone's side, and we get plenty of complaints about

Font - So I'm working the desk with them today, and head to the bathroom to browse reddit and drop a deuce. I was gone maybe ten minutes tops. When I get back to the desk, they have their selfie cam up, a pair of office scissors in their hand, and they are GIVING THEMSELVES A WHOLE A HAIRCUT. I didn't fully realize it until I got behind the desk and there is a PILE OF HAIR ON THE DESK. The desk we all work at. It was a single big handful of cut hair. They were annoyed at their hair being in thei

Font - I tried to articulate why that was NOT an appropriate workplace activity, but honestly don't think the point landed. Now the communal keyboard has hair in it. They cleaned up the pile and there was still hair in the cracks and crevices of our workstation. I'm trying not to gag. They kept fussing with it and checking it the rest of the day, and every time they tussled it, more hair poofed out! It's disgusting, something about someone else's hair clippings in my s and my workspace just got

Font - if I So here's the rub. Would I be the as reported the incident to our boss? They are already on thin ice, and I know bossman is as frustrated with their behavior as much as the rest of us. But this whole impromptu hair salon situation has crossed a line for me. Would saying something just be escalating it? I wouldn't want to be the reason someone gets fired. Especially not for something as mind-numbingly clueless as using customer facing job time to cut your d hair. I don't want to proje

Font - So WIBTA is I narced to my boss about my coworker's unappreciated performance art? TLDR: Receptionist coworker cut their own hair at the front desk of an art museum. It's gross.

Font - Artsy_Fartsy_Fox Partabant [1] ΝΤΑ Look, your coworker is unprofessional and it's not your job to control their behavior. Giving themselves a haircut? Not a problem. Doing it while on the job and especially not cleaning up the mess? DEFINABLE A PROBLEM! What if a customer had seen that?! It's a bad look for the first point of contact with your museum patrons...

Font - hard_tyrant_dinosaur Parta pant [1] The "in public view of customers" aspect absolutely needs to be at the forefront of OPs raising it to their boss. Does not matter if any patrons saw it. It happened in a place where they could have. And most museums operate heavily on donations. If a leading donor came in at the wrong time and saw it, it could turn ugly quickly.

Font - BeeJackson A Enthusiast [7] NTA - Ask to switch shifts so you aren't working with them, and ask that the whole desk be cleaned and sanitized. Don't say why. They are on their way to getting fired anyway, but you don't need to be the one to push the button.

Human body - PiperAnne55 NTA - if they get fired it won't be because of you

Font - nach3 NTA, though I dont know how clean head hair can be gross. Other than that, your coworker might not have the social maturity to work a front desk job. You'd be doing everyone a favor, including them.
