Font - This is a short and sweet story. My dads good friend did rubbish collections for a while when he was skint. (Essentially a man with a van who would lump all your rubbish into the back of his pick-up and get rid of it for a fixed price).
  • 04
Font - He agreed a price to clear a lot of rubbish from a customers house, which took him half a day and filled his van. As he was about to drive off, he requested payment.
  • 05
Font - Knowing that he had invested a lot of time and effort into collecting and loading all this rubbish, the customer tried to capitalise on his vulnerability and knock him down on price.
  • 06
Font - After a few choice words and the customer not budging, my dads mate got in his van without taking any money and started to drive off. He then backed up onto the customers drive.

Font - Here's where it gets interesting, what the customer obviously didn't realise, was the van was a tipper van. As the bed of the van started rising, the customer was frantically offering the full amount of payment.
  • 08
Font - My dads mate, even though he was skint, refused to stop the tipper function and said the rubbish was piled up so high, the customer, who was standing there bewildered, wouldn't have even been able to get in the front door. He drove off skint and happy.

Font - djriri228 · 16 hr. ago My ex brother in law is a contractor and he had someone try and pull this type of thing on more than one occasion. Fed up the last time it happened he just started deconstructing the conservatory he was almost finished building and left the people with a giant gaping hole at the back of their house. They tried calling police but the police

Font - said since they hadn't paid yet they didn't own the materials used then they tried offering to pay what they were supposed to pay but my brother in law was like nope because this would now take longer to rebuild and he had other paying customers booked in. At the end of the day he ended up using the

Because contractors talk and nobody wanted to touch the project because they all heard what these people tried to do. Reply Share 987

Font - bitemark01 +1 - 15 hr. ago So glad we have a good relationship with our contractor. He lives down the street and he's a nice guy, we pay him quickly and recommend him to everyone, and take his suggestions seriously. Even give the occasional gift like a bottle of wine, etc.

Font - Because of this, he'll do things like come over personally to fix minor problems free of charge, even if we were just asking for a recommendation to fix it. Be good to your contractors. 453 Reply Share

Font - D bitemark01 +1.15 hr. ago Yeah I remember a similar story, only it involved a guy snow plowing this other guy's driveway. Driveway owner had flagged him down and offered money on the spot, then refused to pay... so he just plows the snow BACK into his driveway. Owner even called the cops... who totally sided with plow guy.

Font - weaselpoopcoffee1 +1.14 hr. ago I had this happen to me when I was a kid (12 or 13) shoveling driveways. We agreed on 6 dollars. I worked fast 'cause I wanted to do as many driveways as possible. Lady said no kid your age should get 6 bucks an hour and gave me 4 dollars. I shoveled 1/2 the snow back on her driveway while she was yelling from the door at me. I told her to call the cops. Life lesson right there.

Font - CosmicChanges +3. 11 hr. ago I love this story. In my area, we have a lot of immigrants from a specific country and they like to do business with each other more than with other people. Sometimes some of them (a small minority) are dishonest with other people and blame it on being from a culture that haggles. The thing is, when you are done haggling, you should honor what you agreed to.

Font - I know of one situation many years ago where a member of this group was buying a house from someone who was not a member of the group. This was not in a similar house selling situation to now. As you know, when you have a contract to sell your house, you turn around and contract to buy your next house where you are moving to. This puts people in precarious situations

Font - with money sometimes. Ten days before the house saw supposed to close, the buyer said they would not close at the agreed on price, they would pay ten percent less. After that, the seller tried to talk to them, but the buyer held firm on not honoring the deal. The seller ultimately said, "OK, the contract is broken, we will keep your surety, since you are the one

Font - breaking the contract, and I would not consider selling to you now." It was hard on the seller, but he was able to find an honest buyer. I think they now have some sort of insurance to cover this kinds of situation, since there seems to be a lot of buyers who think they can take advantage of people. 32 Reply Share
