Whenever you go up to the mountains and there's heavy snow all around you, it's tough not to get excited about pending mountain adventures like skiing, snowboarding, sledding, or just chilling at the chalet. However, there are very real dangers present whenever you head to the snowy caps of your local mountain range: Avalanches. One second you're chilling on a nice powdery day, the next second you're running for your life and potentially buried alive in a snow deluge. Who else can save you but a boopable-snooted golden retriever rescue pup?

This golden goose is Mt. Bachelor's newest recruit and has been undergoing her first season of mountain rescue training in northern Oregon. She is the doggo you want on the job if an avalanche were ever to occur. She's got the nose that knows and the pawsies that just won't quit on you.

The mountain rescue team at Mt. Bachelor have been training sweet Shasta for months. Following her rigorous training, she'll undergo a series of tests to see if she can find her handlers buried alive in the snow using only her sense of smell. Not only is Shasta a star pupil, able to track scents from miles away, but she is also a skilled “finder”.

Once she's located her target, she is able to dig out the top layer of snow and dive deep into the air pocket. Once she breaks the outer crust of snow, she excited tried to worm her way through so that she can reach anyone in need of rescue.

She's trained not only to find lost mountaineers, but she can also pull them out to safety with ease. Now THAT's a good girl.

This golden retriever has received golden stars of approval from all of her comrades and counter parts at Mr. Bachelor and will likely become a full time working dog next season. For now, she's completing her training and enjoying the bliss of the mountain before becoming the life line for hoomans in dangerous situations.

She leisurely chills on the shoulders of her trainers as their snowboard down the mountain, sniffing the cool wintery air before setting off on another uphill sprint exercise. This happy doggo has no idea how special she is…
