I'd like to give a special shoutout to Gen Xers who aren't technically Gen Xers. The people who nearly made it into the most iconic generation of the 20th century need some love too! My parents were born in 1962 and 1963. They are insistent that they are not baby boomers, as they should be. Even though they are technically boomers (the generation spans from 1946-1964), I feel like they should be allowed to claim a Gen X identity if they so choose. Growing up in the 80s is astronomically different than growing up in the 60s. Being a baby boomer is, and always has been, such an embarrassing generation, and I understand wanting to distance yourself from it. I hope members of the true Gen X community (born 1965-1980) will have it in their hearts to take in my parents, whose only crimes were being born 2-3 years too early.
