Woman Shares the Most Helpful Hack for Leash Training with Short or Small Dogs, Dog Parents On the Internet are Very Grateful

Leash training is an integral part of basic training when it comes to raising a dog. As a dog parent it is your duty to train your dog with at least basic manners, at the bare minimum, leash training. You have to walk your dog every single day, so it is important that they know how to behave on a leash. You don't want to be tugged around for the entire walk, or have them constantly getting caught in their leash, or running after every person or creature that passes you two. Leash training also helps for reactive dogs in both helping train them to behave on a leash, but also when other dogs are leash train, it helps prevent any sort of tention with passing reactive dogs.

So long story short, you should at least leash train your dog. Usually, what trainers tell you to do is bring treats with you and give them a treat every time they stay next to you, trot politely, look at you, etc. That is easy when a dog is tall enough to reach your arms length, but when you have a shorter dog or a small dog, you're constantly bending down to reward them. That is not easy on the back and/or knees.

One woman on TikTok recently posted her hack for leash training her short dog and dog parents are applauding her. She says she wasn't the first to come up with it, but it has saved her back and changed the way she trains her dog in the best way possible.

Basically, all you do is put something like peanut butter in a “Chuck It” (which is a stick thingy that helps you throw a ball far distances during fetch) and then just dip it down so your dog can get a lick as a reward every time they do what you want them to do. Viola! It is seriously that simple. Game changer, right?
