Weekly Internet Roundup: Gollum Gets Roasted, Housing Association Nightmares, and a Very Nosy Fish

Hello, it's that time again where we take a long, hard look at a few of the heavy hitting topics that social media has decided to be deserving over the past week. This time round, we have a bit of a Twitter-heavy edition. There's life in the old dog yet (or it's making its death rattle). Let's go.

God Forbid Your Neighbor Grows Plants

It's always been true that many blue check Twitter users are their own special breed of sanctimonious and annoying, but this has undoubtedly gotten worse now that you have to pay for them. This was proved (and memed on) earlier this week when one of them decided to moan about his neighbor being the sole house to refuse membership of the local housing association. The result of this dreadful decision? They didn't mow their lawn. This petty complaint got roasted to oblivion pretty fast, with most people not getting the problem. Grass is passé now, you know.

Malnourished Crazy Frog is Meme Game of the Year

It feels like it's been a while since gamers have united around memeing their passion, like the collective hornyposting inspired by Resident Evil Village's Lady Dimitrescu. It means that the general negative consensus surrounding new Tolkien-inspired video game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has been a treat for all. The gameplay is reportedly so bad that the developers felt the need to issue an official apology, leading to yet more online mockery. I mean, it'll go down in history for one reason.

We Are All Yoriko Stans Now

The ocean is full of weird, wonderful, and straight-up terrifying creatures, and one of them has been enjoying their time in the internet spotlight thanks to some unexpected attention on Twitter. Yoriko is an Asian Sheepshead Wrasse who has cultivated a 30 year friendship with elderly Japanese diver Hiroyuki Arakawa.

This means that they have a tendency to poke their overly large forehead into whatever Arakawa is doing when he's spending time in the sea. A video of him trying to use a hammer with Yoriko keeping a watchful eye captured imaginations earlier this week, in a refreshingly wholesome example of virality. More of these, please.

Now we're finished for another week. Here's to another arbitrary period of time where the good people of the internet drum up enough viral claptrap that we have even more to talk about in the future. Bye!
