How does this boss think that enforcing these ridiculous new rules will make his employees loyal? Clearly, he has already had trouble establishing loyalty and a healthy work environment for his employees. After all, it's no surprise that multiple employees left him high and dry at the same time for "better opportunities."
So what did he do in response to this news? He decided to send a company-wide email blaming what happened on his other employees and enforcing immediate changes to the employee handbook. Now, he's requiring that employees give three months notice since their training lasts that amount of time during the onboarding process. During those final three months, quitting employees are expected to fully train their replacements. Let's start by saying that this three months nonsense is completely antithetical to the concept of "at-will employment." This dude's employees are in no way obligated to stay an extra day. Two weeks is a courtesy in and of itself. But then again, it's a courtesy, not a requirement. If the boss is able to fire someone effectively immediately, then the employee should be able to quit effective immediately. Pure and simple!
Make no mistake: this guy is not solving his company's problems by sending this email. He is only further confirming that the employees who quit on the spot made the right decision. That being said, we have to acknowledge our amusement at his shady comment regarding these "better opportunities." Credit where credit is due!
