Some of the most difficult parts of parenting can come down to finding the right balance between "friend" and "parent." On the one hand, parents want to raise their children to be respectful and disciplined and on the other, parents want their kids to come to them about anything on their minds, including their love lives. The two parenting styles can contrast each other, especially when it comes to forming trust with the child.

Once children enter the dating age is when they need you the most. First relationships and heartbreaks can be very impactful experiences, and whether these experiences happen behind your back or with full knowledge depends on the relationship you created with your child.
